The Coalition of Partnerships for UHC and Global Health has published an op-ed in the British Medical Journal.
On 29 September 2021, the Coalition of Partnerships for UHC and Global Health published an op-ed in the British Medical Journal (the BMJ) reminding decision-makers and health advocates that universal health coverage is key to addressing barriers to health services and improving the quality of care across all areas of health.
At the 2019 United Nations High-Level Meeting (UN HLM) on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), world leaders committed to ensuring that by 2030 everyone in their country would receive the quality health services they need without suffering financial hardship. As a global community, we are not on track to meet this goal.
Recognizing the need to get back on course and increase collaboration, the Coalition aims to assist Member States and other stakeholders in accelerating high-level political efforts around socio-political accountability, supporting coordination among the various health initiatives and joint follow-up actions of UN HLMs, and strengthening existing SDG accountability mechanisms.
We hope this op-ed will remind decision-makers and health advocates that we must work together to improve the quality of care across all areas of health, and that this entails prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable and establishing legal and policy frameworks to identify and mitigate barriers to health.
