UHC2030 launches new guide for Parliamentarians in collaboration with European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual & Reproductive Rights and the African Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development
The new toolkit Parliamentarian Guide: 6 Action Steps to Achieve Universal Health Coverage was launched today. This new guide was developed in concertation with more than 13 Parliamentarian networks and MPs from 39 countries. It provides Parliamentarians with tools to champion UHC in their countries and regions.
Lead. Protect. Legislate. Advocate. Invest. Collaborate.
These are the six tangible actions that Parliamentarians can take to ensure UHC for their constituencies. The guide also includes 10 modules with recommended focus areas, including themes from gender equality to global health security systems.
Gaby Cuevas, Co-Chair of UHC2030 and former Parliamentarian, said at the launch, "It is our responsibility as parliamentarians to promote #UHC and ensure good health and wellbeing for our constituents." Parliamentarians have the mandate to ensure that their States deliver on SDG commitments for their citizens. Meeting the SDG commitment on health will require good governance and linkages between health and social protection systems - this guide provides capacity building with regards to the social justice reforms that can lead to achieving UHC.
This is a critical step to building more resilient health systems that do not impose undue financial burden and also promote fairer and more inclusive societies.
