UHC2030 and WHO are organising a country simulation exercise during the Health Systems Research Symposium in Liverpool.
Despite growing political interest, there are major gaps in the research and theoretical frameworks surrounding private sector engagement for UHC.
Calling for greater clarity, UHC2030 and World Health Organization are hosting a session called 'UHC in jeopardy: is rethinking private sector accountability the answer? A country simulation'.
This is the question at the core of the session held on 8 October, from 09.00 - 11.00, in rooms 3/4/5 of the Jury’s Inn in Liverpool during the Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (Flyer).
The session will examine the issue of accountability in a private health insurance market in the fictitious county of Erehwon. Although Erehwon is not a real place, the issues highlighted will come from real world situations drawn from many health systems.
Participants will discuss what to do about accountability problems that have arisen in the private health insurance market in Erehwon, where health equity, quality and financial protection are in jeopardy. Participants will take on the role of the main actors in this market - including the private sector - and discuss what accountability means for each of these actors.
The session aims to clarify the important role of the research community in helping countries and global health actors make sense of these important issues and encourage new research to help countries and global partnerships such as UHC2030 to create effective and meaningful private sector accountability for UHC.
